Some will never happen.

I recently watched an advertisement that showed a lady that was seated but her mind had a hamster’s wheel inside it. She was busy processing so much and the advert finished captioning the word ‘Such Brain Work!’. I noticed that the lady looked very exhausted even though she had not left her seat to go anywhere.

Her mind was so busy that her body was in a state of exhaustion. As I thought about her and this advertisement, I realized that many of us can relate to where this woman was at. Many wake up completely exhausted even before the day starts and might even find it hard to step out of bed to face the activities of the day.

Why do we get ourselves in a state of exhaustion because of the over working of our minds? We tend to overthink and worry about a lot of things because we think the weight of the world is on our shoulders. It is interesting to note that some of the things we think about will happen anyway, they are inevitable whereas some will never happen. Yet we can stay up all night worrying about them.

However, it is good to note that the issue of worry or overthinking matters did not just start with our generation, but Jesus had to address it too. In the book of Matthew chapter 6, Jesus told us not to worry at least four times, where he devoted nine verses to shaking us from our worries. Worrying creates mental torment and that surely is not Gods desire for us.

The word of God says:

‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and minds.’  Philippians 4:6-7
