This is our God

I was at a workgroup last week, and one guy casually mentioned he’d been waiting for a breakthrough for years—no visible sign of progress. “I’m starting to wonder if God remembers me at all,” he said, and everyone went quiet.

It reminded me of how we can feel when a promise from God seems delayed. We wonder if He’s forgotten us, or if we heard Him wrong in the first place. But there’s a name in the Bible that speaks hope into this feeling—Zechariah, which literally means “God remembers.

On my way home, I couldn’t stop thinking about my colleague’s story. I praised God for that testimony and was reminded that “the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise” (2 Peter 3:9). He is both the Promise Maker and the Promise Keeper—the One who never forgets what He said He would do. That’s the essence behind the name Zechariah—“God remembers.”

Even when we feel overlooked or wonder if God’s forgotten us, He’s still at work, fulfilling His word in His perfect time.

Verse of the Day: The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you…” — 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
