The value of past experiences

One of the most talked-about people in the Bible is David. As a shepherd, he protected his sheep with courage, defeating both a lion and a bear. These moments prepared him for something greater.
When the Israelites were too afraid to face Goliath, David stepped forward. He didn’t rely on weapons or armor but on his experience and faith. “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37). David’s confidence came not from himself but from trusting God’s faithfulness.

As I thought about David’s story, I realized how often we underestimate the value of our past experiences. David didn’t see the lion and the bear as random challenges; he saw them as preparation. What looked like ordinary moments in the field were actually training for his greatest battle yet—facing Goliath.
Life often works the same way. The battles you’ve faced, the struggles you’ve overcome, and even the smaller victories you’ve achieved are not wasted. They’re building your faith, confidence, and resilience for what’s ahead. Like David, you can face your Goliaths knowing that God has been faithful before and will be faithful again.

Here’s the challenge: When you’re faced with an intimidating situation, don’t forget how far God has already brought you. Let your past victories remind you of His power and His faithfulness.
