The Crowd is usually wrong: Part 2

I’ve read this story many times, but when I started reflecting on how “the crowd is always wrong,” it took on a deeper meaning.

Herod stood before the people in his royal robes, delivering a powerful speech. The crowd was in awe. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man!”
And in that moment, Herod drank in the praise. He accepted the glory. He didn’t redirect it to God.

Scripture says:
And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and gave up the ghost Acts 12:23

It was a swift and sobering consequence. Herod’s downfall came, not because of the crowd, but because he let their praise become his pride. He failed to give God the glory for his influence, his voice, and his position.

In what areas of our life have we quietly accepted credit for what only God could have done? Are there moments where the applause of others has replaced your humility before God?

The Bible is clear:

“I am the Lord, that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another…” Isaiah 42:8

Let’s not fall into the trap of taking what belongs to Him. Give God the glory in your success, your gifts, your platform, and your praise.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve taken credit where I should have given thanks. Help me to always reflect Your glory, not absorb it.
