Self-made Billionaires
I was watching a show last week about self-made billionaires. The interviews were fascinating—stories of people who started from nothing and built massive empires through sheer grit and determination.
One particular story stood out: a man who recounted how he worked multiple jobs, slept only four hours a night, and poured every ounce of his energy into his dream. He shared how he refused to take handouts or shortcuts, attributing his success solely to his hard work and vision.
It made me pause and reflect. In a world that celebrates the idea of being “self-made,” these stories are inspiring. But they also left me wondering—can anyone really do it all on their own?
As I thought about those stories of "self-made" billionaires, I couldn’t help but think of how much we depend on others—and ultimately, on God.
Take a moment to reflect: every skill we have, every opportunity we’ve received, every breath we take—it’s all a gift. Just as the billionaires didn’t achieve success entirely on their own, neither can we. The strength to work, the wisdom to decide, and even the connections that propel us forward are blessings from God.
The Bible reminds us of this in Deuteronomy 8:18: “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.”
No matter how much effort we put in, it’s God who opens the doors, guides the process, and provides the grace to succeed.
