Please do not wish evil on others
DO NOT WISH EVIL ON OTHERS.
This reminds me of the story of Haman and Mordecai in the Bible (Esther 7:9-10). Haman hated Mordecai so much that he built a gallows to have him killed. But in the end, the same gallows Haman built for Mordecai was used for him instead.
The lesson? The harm you wish for others can come back to you. Proverbs 26:27 puts it this way: “If you dig a pit, you will fall in it. If you roll a stone, it will roll back on you.”
But wishing evil isn’t always as dramatic as Haman’s story. It can be subtle—like hoping someone fails, feeling happy when they struggle, or thinking, “They deserve it.” These thoughts may seem small, but they reveal what’s in our hearts, and that matters to God.
Instead, God calls us to a better way: “Love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you” (Matthew 5:44). It’s not easy, but it’s what we’re called to do.
When we choose to pray for others instead of wishing them harm, we’re choosing love. And when we choose love, we’re choosing God’s way—a way that blesses not only others but also ourselves.
Reflection: Have you ever caught yourself wishing someone bad, even in small ways? Ask God to help you let go of those feelings and replace them with love and kindness.
