Next of kin

I saw a story the other day about a young man who had been adopted into a wealthy family. In a playful TikTok video, he shared his excitement about being the next of kin. The video went viral—he was beaming, full of joy.

But shortly after, the wealthy man posted something of his own. It was a picture of his biological son, captioned:
“Ancient and modern. Eyes on the ball.”
He tagged him as the real next of kin.
No further explanation. No extra words. Just a quiet but public redirection.

As I thought about that moment, something stirred in me. I thought about us—you and me—how we’ve been adopted into God’s family.
But unlike the video, there’s no second-guessing with God. I was reminded that our adoption into God’s family isn’t playful or uncertain—it’s unconditional and eternal. Through Jesus, we are not second-class; we are joint heirs, fully accepted and deeply loved. There’s no ambiguity—He chose you, and He calls you His own.

You’re not adopted with an asterisk. You’re adopted with full access.

Romans 8:15 reminds us:
“The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

In Christ, there are no “real” and “almost real” children. We are heirs with Christ. Loved. Chosen. Legitimate.
Let this truth sink in: You are not God's backup plan. You're His beloved child. He didn’t pick you out of pity—He picked you on purpose.

Prayer: Father, thank You for choosing me. Thank You for adopting me into Your family—not out of obligation, but out of love. Help me never forget that I am Yours, fully and completely.

Verse of the Day: Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” — Romans 8:17
