I am so guilty of this
There's this story Jesus told about a Pharisee and a tax collector who went to the temple to pray. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, “God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.” (Luke 18:11). He was so focused on his own perceived goodness, listing all his good deeds as if he could earn God’s approval by comparing himself to others.
Jesus used this story to remind us that God sees the heart, not our outward comparisons or self-righteousness. The Pharisee thought his actions made him better, but in God’s eyes, pride blocks us from true connection with Him. Real faith isn’t about proving we’re better than others; it’s about recognizing our own need for God’s mercy and grace.
Reflection: Today, take a moment to examine your heart. Are there areas where pride or comparison has crept in? Remember, God values humility and sincerity over appearances. Ask Him to help you see others—and yourself—through His eyes, without judgment or comparison.
Song of the Day: I Surrender” — a powerful reminder to let go of pride and fully give ourselves to God, trusting in His guidance and love.
