Hurricane Helene

I was talking to someone who recently moved to my city, and they were absolutely terrified when they heard about hurricanes for the first time. If you live in the U.S., you’ve probably heard of Hurricane Helene—a monstrous outlier of a storm.

While my city isn’t expected to face the worst of it, we’ll still feel its effects. The weather forecast for today is intense:

Showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall possible. High near 72°F. Winds shifting from the north-northwest to the southwest, gusting up to 30 mph. There's a 100% chance of rain, with precipitation between 3 and 4 inches expected. The rain will continue into Sunday.

As I thought about this storm and how terrified my friend was, I couldn’t help but reflect on how storms, both literal and metaphorical, often leave us shaken. Life’s storms can come out of nowhere—a sudden illness, financial struggle, or a relationship issue—and just like my friend, we might find ourselves filled with fear and uncertainty.

But here’s the truth: while storms are inevitable, we are not alone in facing them. Psalm 107:29 tells us, “He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.” In the middle of whatever storm you’re facing, God is there—steady and in control.

Just as we prepare for the physical storms by staying informed and taking precautions, we also need to prepare spiritually by anchoring our trust in God. Even if the winds are strong and the rain won’t seem to stop, He remains our shelter.
Today, take a moment to bring your storm to God. Ask Him for peace and trust that He will guide you through whatever you're facing. You’re not alone, and this storm won’t last forever.
