How will you react to this threat?
Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, was a ruthless conqueror. His empire had already overthrown many nations, and now, he set his sights on Jerusalem. He sent messengers to threaten King Hezekiah and the people of Judah, boasting about his past victories and mocking their trust in God.
"Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. No god of any nation has ever been able to deliver its people from my hand—how then can your God save you?" Isaiah 36:18-20
Sennacherib was right. No nation had successfully resisted him before. The people of Judah were outnumbered, outmatched, and surrounded.
But Hezekiah didn’t panic. He didn’t try to negotiate or fight back on his own strength.
Instead, he did something powerful. He took the letter of threats from Sennacherib, went into the temple, spread it out before the Lord, and prayed:
"O Lord Almighty, enthroned between the cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth… Listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God." (Isaiah 37:16-17)
Hezekiah didn’t react—he responded. He took the problem straight to God.
And what happened?
That very night, an angel of the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. By morning, Sennacherib’s army was wiped out, and he fled in disgrace (Isaiah 37:36-37).
Here’s the lesson: Some battles are not yours to fight.
When life throws threats your way—bad news, financial struggles, opposition—don’t waste time stressing. Lay it before God and let Him handle it.
You’re not defenseless. You have the same God who silenced Sennacherib’s arrogance with one move.
💡 Today’s Prayer: Lord, teach me to surrender my battles to You, trusting that You fight for me.
