How to Keep Going When Life Throws you Into a Pit
I came across a story that hit me differently this time.
A poor, pitiful donkey fell into a deep, dry well. The farmer who owned him heard the cries but debated whether it was worth the trouble to rescue him. The donkey was old anyway. Maybe it was time to let him go.
So the farmer called his neighbors and said, “Let’s just bury him. The well needs to be filled anyway.” One shovel of dirt after another, they started pouring it over the donkey.
But something unexpected happened.
Instead of giving up, the donkey shook off the dirt and stepped on it. Every shovel of dirt that was meant to bury him brought him closer to the top. By the end of the day, the donkey stepped right out of the well.
Some people thought they were burying him—but they were helping him rise.
Sometimes, that’s how God works. The very pressure, criticism, betrayal, or setback you’re facing might be what God is using to lift you.
Ask Joseph. Ask Daniel. Ask Jesus. What the enemy means for evil, God can use to elevate you.
Don’t let the dirt silence you—shake it off, step up, and keep climbing.
Verse of the Day: Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.
Reflection: What if the very thing meant to bury you is what God wants to use to raise you?
Prayer: Lord, help me not to panic in the pit. Give me the strength to rise, even when life shovels dirt on me.
Song of the Day: Firm Foundation (He Won’t) – Maverick City
