Frequently made mistake

Last Saturday, a friend invited me over to his house, and I told him, “I’ll be there.” He sent me his address, and in my mind, I thought, "Dude, I’ve been to your house before." When I saw the address, it looked familiar, and I figured, "Yep, that’s the same place I’ve been to."

As I usually do, even if I know where I’m going, I punched the address into my GPS—just in case I needed a quicker route. The first red flag should’ve been the estimated arrival time: 22 minutes. I thought, "Wait a second, his house shouldn’t be that far." But I ignored it. After all, I’d been to his house multiple times.

Long story short, I was wrong. When I got to the address, it wasn’t his house. He had moved—years ago. When I finally arrived at his actual place, I asked, "Dude, when did you move?" He laughed and said, "I invited you to the housewarming three years ago, but you didn’t come."

This made me think about how often we assume we know God or what He wants us to do, only to find out we’re heading in the wrong direction. Just like I thought I knew my friend’s address, we sometimes rely on our own understanding of God instead of seeking Him daily.

In Isaiah 55:8-9, God reminds us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” We can’t assume we know God’s plans or paths based on past encounters. He might be leading us somewhere new, but we miss it because we’re stuck in old patterns.
