FBI Investigation

We’ve all done it.
Prayed about something, then turned right around to play detective.
Checking backgrounds. Calculating timelines. Matching values. Running our own private FBI investigations on God’s promises.

I remember a story in the Bible—1 Samuel 16.
When Samuel was sent to anoint a new king, Jesse brought out all his fine, kingly-looking sons. Samuel, trusting his prophet instincts (and probably his own assumptions), saw Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the one.”
But God said no.
In fact, God had to interrupt his internal analysis:

“Do not consider his appearance or height… The Lord does not look at the things people look at.” – 1 Samuel 16:7

David, forgotten in the field was the real choice. Not the most obvious. Not the most impressive. But the one God had His eyes on all along.

Like Samuel, we sometimes assume we know what’s best.
We think:
– He doesn’t fit my list.
– She’s too young in the faith.
– That job doesn’t make sense.
– That city isn’t part of my plan.
– That church doesn’t “look” like my tribe.

But God isn’t limited to what looks right. He moves beyond your checklist. His will won’t always follow your logic.
So, do your research.
Use wisdom.
But never let your “investigation” become louder than God’s instruction.

Reflection: Is there something you’ve been trying to figure out instead of trusting God for?
Verse of the Day: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Prayer: Lord, I surrender my assumptions and research. Lead me in Your higher way—even when it doesn’t make sense.
