Be Consistent
My home office setup gives me a clear view of everything happening on the street—from parents scolding their kids to couples having disagreements. But one thing that has consistently caught my attention is this man who jogs or walks every single day. Sometimes he’s with his dog, sometimes with another person. I’ve practically memorized his routine.
What surprised me most was on a particularly cold day when the temperature was in the single digits. I felt sorry for him as he kept going. Why would anyone walk in such brutal cold? Maybe it’s for his health, or he’s preparing for a race. Perhaps it’s just to stay fit, or maybe he simply enjoys the routine. Whatever the reason, he never fails to show up, and he always seems happy out there.
I can sit in my warmth and pity him, but one thing is clear: he’s getting results. Day in, day out, he’s committed—while many of us remain on the couch, watching from the windows, gaining nothing but extra weight
Sometimes we think we’re clever, dodging spiritual exercises. We skip prayer, make excuses when it’s time to fast, and settle for a quick summary of the Word someone else dug out. But, like physical exercise, spiritual growth requires discipline—there’s no magic shortcut. Breakthroughs won’t come just because we’re “nice.” We have to show up, put in the work, and watch God honor our consistency.
Reflection: What spiritual exercises have you been dodging? Ask God to help you build the discipline to pray, fast, and study His Word consistently. True growth requires effort and commitment.
