A man died of starvation, but at his funeral, food was served.
I was scrolling through Twitter the other day, and a post caught my attention. It said:
"A man died of starvation, but at his funeral, food was served."
That sentence hit me hard. The irony was painful—while he was alive and in desperate need, no one gave him food. But when he was gone, they brought out a feast.
This reminded me of a story Jesus told in Luke 16:19-31—the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.
Lazarus was a poor, sick man who sat outside the rich man’s gate, longing for even the crumbs from his table. But the rich man ignored him. Only after death did the rich man realize his mistake—but by then, it was too late.
How many times do we see people struggling—physically, emotionally, spiritually—and instead of acting, we just move on with our day?
Prayer is powerful, but faith without action is empty. James 2:15-16 puts it plainly:
"Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?"
The world doesn’t just need our prayers—it needs our hands, our kindness, and our generosity.
If someone is lonely, pray for them—but also call them.
If someone is struggling, pray for them—but also offer help.
If someone is hungry, pray for them—but also feed them.
Don’t wait until it’s too late to do what you can today.
Reflection: Who in your life is in need right now? Don’t just pray—take action.
